Folk and Traditional Arts
Art forms that are learned and passed on to the next generation informally by word of mouth, imitation and observation rather than in a formal academic setting. Traditional arts encompass many forms including crafts, music, dance, verbal arts and culinary traditions

Full-time Employee
An individual employed in a permanent position for at least 30 hours per week; does not include consultants, contract workers, independent contractors, persons whose positions are temporary or time-limited as a condition of employment

Interpretive Science Organization
Organization that has a mission focused on the interpretive sciences and that fulfills the mission through providing year-round public access to significant living collections, exhibits, or programming serving the public at one or more physical sites, identifying as an arboretum, center, museum, zoo, garden, aquarium, or planetarium, are eligible

Legal Iowa Resident
An individual with current, permanent residency in the State of Iowa

Low Socioeconomic Status
Low socioeconomic status is defined by county or by individual as having a median household income at 80 percent or less of the median household income for the state of Iowa based on the U.S. Census Bureau's Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates for 2020 and/or a poverty rate above the national poverty rate of 10.5% based on the U.S. Census Bureau's Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates for 2020. Applicants must meet the criteria as an individual or be located in and serving the county to receive additional program consideration
