Impact of the Arts in Iowa

  • Impact of the Arts in Iowa

Ignite the full potential of Iowa’s creative sector.

Iowa is a creative state. As home to one of the most arts-vibrant (Des Moines) and top small creative cities (Iowa City) in the country, along with art-filled main streets, creative places and nationally-known arts attractions, Iowa abounds with culture and creativity. Iowa is fertile ground for artists, artisans and makers of all kinds, too - many of whom work at the nations largest nonprofit artist workspace. Nearly 40,000 Iowans work in the creative sector - from photographers, filmmakers and designers, to writers, performers and culinary professionals. Iowa creatives are embedded into the fabric of every Iowa community and are at work, every day, preserving our heritage, documenting our stories and imagining our future.

What is Create in Iowa?

A statewide effort to ignite the full potential of Iowa’s creative sector to welcome new Iowans, grow and equip our workforce, and prepare Iowa students for a creative future.

Leadership Create in Iowa is led by the Iowa Arts Council and guided by statewide arts and cultural partners.

Vision Iowa grows with creativity. We envision Iowa as a welcoming and growing state where partnerships with the creative sector lead to greater opportunities for Iowans.

Goals With the guidance of arts and cultural leaders and statewide partners, we will envision policies and programs that can advance the State of Iowa's priorities around workforce development and preparing students for a creative future.
